The Old Man and the Girl by Gary Martin

Buck Satin often sits on his front porch swing watching the cars pass by his house. He is alone, angry and bitter. When a young girl of twelve comes to his porch to invite him to a revival it angers him, and he promptly demands that the girl leave his property. He is not ready for church or God. He gave up on God a long time ago because it seemed that God had given up on him.

The girl returns the next day. This time she only wants to cut his grass. That makes him angry because he feels that she is implying that he is too old to do it himself. Because the girl is relentless, he allows her to cut his lawn this one time only.

She continues coming back wanting to do more for him and soon a friendship develops.

This is the story of a bitter old man and an innocent young girl who won’t give up on him.
